MOUNTAIN CLIMB, MT KENYA

5 Days MT. KENYA UP SIRIMON DOWN SIRIMON

Day 1: Nairobi - Nanyuki
we will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel in the morning and depart for Nanyuki town, arriving in time for lunch. The afternoon will be spent acclimatising and organising any gear you may require for the trek. Dinner and overnight at a campsite

Day 2: Nanyuki - Old Moses
After breakfast, drive to the Sirimon Park Gate where you will begin your hike to Old Moses Hut for your first overnight on Mt Kenya, lunch enroute. The hike takes about 3 hours, by passing tropical rain forest and bamboo vegetation sections. The altitude here is 3,300m. Dinner and overnight at the hut.

Day 3: Old Moses - Shiptons
After breakfast, hike to Shipton’s which is at 4,200m above sea level. You stop for a picnic lunch half way through the hike. Dinner and overnight at the hut. Walking time is 5 to 7 hours depending on your individual fitness level

Day 4: Shiptons - Pt Lenana - Old Moses
A pre-down attempt of Pt. Lenana. This early start is intended to give you enough time to read Pt Lenana when the sun is rising and in clear weather gives you a clear view of the majestic scenery. After photography and viewing descend to old Moses for overnight, meals enroute.

Day 5: Old Moses - Nairobi
After breakfast, descend leisurely to the Sirimon park gate, and then catch your transport to Nairobi arriving in the evening.

5 DAYS MT. KENYA UP SIRIMON DOWN NARO MORU

Day 1: Nairobi – Mt Kenya
pick up from your Nairobi hotel in the morning. Drive to Nanyuki town. A town set on the foothills of Mt, Kenya. After lunch, spend the rest of the afternoon acclimatising and sorting out and organising all the requirements for your trip. Dinner and overnight at a campsite.

Day 2: Mt Kenya - Old Moses
After breakfast, drive to the Sirimon Track Park Gate. Hike to Old Moses hut in an average hiking time of 3 hours, lunch enroute. This hike is very essential for acclimatisation and quite educative as far as the vegetation is concerned. Dinner and overnight at the hut, which is 3,300m above sea level.

Day 3: Old Moses - Shiptons
An early start for Shiptons, attitude 4,200m in an average hiking time of 6 hours, lunch enroute. Sirimon route lies on the north - western side of Mt Kenya and generally escapes some rainfall, making it drier than other routes most times of the year. Dinner and overnight at the hut.

Day 4: Shiptons - Pt Lenana - metrological station Bandas
Wake up to a pre-dawn attempt of Pt Lenana, 4,985m above sea level. If you are fortunate and the weather is clear, you may see Mt Kilimanjaro to the south, Mt Elgon to the west and even the Indian Ocean to the East. After your photography and viewing opportunity, surrounded by glaciers and ice rock caves, descend to Mackinders and further to metrological station Bandas [6-7] for dinner and overnight, meals enroute.

Day 5: Met- Nairobi
After breakfast, descend to Naro Moru park gate where your will board your transport to Nairobi

Recommended Mountain Clothing
- Warm, windproof jacket with hood
- Waterproof Jacket and overtrousers
- Walking trousers, shirts and pullover
- Warm underwear
- Walking socks
- Good comfortable walking boots
- Training shoes (for evening)
- Gaiters
- Sun hat
- Warm hat or balaclava
- Scarf

Recommended Mountain Equipment
- Good warm sleeping bag
- Water bottle (1 to 2 litres)
- Water purification tablets/solution (and filter)
- Wash kit and towel - Toilet paper
- First aid kit (including blister plasters, headache tablets, sun cream, lip salve, personal medication)
- Torch
- Sun glasses
- Walking pole(s)
- Rescue blanket
- Emergency whistle

Nb:It is advisable to pack your clothing and equipment into a waterproof rucksack or duffel bag for porters to carry. Also it is advisable to have a small day sack to carry your raincoat, camera, packed lunch and energy snack and items of personal nature
